Birth tending
&
free birth support
I am a free birthing mother of four, three birthed without a birth attendant, all four at home
My experience will not be yours, as yours will not be mine. We all have unique stories unfolding, and it is just as much in our own power, as it is also not…
Free birth is a term used to describe a womban/birthing person who has chosen to have their own autonomous birth experience outside of the “system”. They may choose to have friends, family, or whomever else with her but they take 100% ownership of their birth experience. My free births occurred without any other attendants, only myself, my partner, and in my last births, my other children were present.
My intention is two fold:
To help you envision and manifest the birth you dream of through deep diving into your soul and psyche prenatally and during labor, accessing your empowered innate knowing and allowing for the animal brain to take over and guide us into an altered state of consciousness…
and at the same time, helping you to accept what is, in each moment, and ride the waves of what baby him/herself, your body, Great Spirit, et al are creating together in this tandem dance of energy that is life between the veils.
The veils are thinnest during birth and death, and it is here that we can meet larger than life parts of ourselves, our past, our future, our Knowing, our Ancestors, our Gods and Guides, and so on. I honor the beliefs and practices of all, while maintaining my own unique way of guiding, providing ceremony, honoring and invoking that which I hold as Holy, in order to help bring an atmosphere of reverence to birth and to the rites of passage we will walk through together, be it prenatal, birthing, or postpartum. I draw from a rich history of my own walk through fires and soothing waters, into deep wells, and highest highs, and learning many things from many amazing teachers, seen and unseen, along the way. Its my hope and my honor to bring what I have to you, and walk alongside you and your family for a little while as you go through this amazing transformative time as a woman. I believe every birth is sacred, and every path, every act. As my venerable teacher Whapio said, “Even a sonogram can be a sacred event”, as she described the most holy sonogram she ever witnessed. Its all about the way we hold space, the way we relate to what Is, and the way we hold life as Holy.
My mission is to help you open to what Is, imagine what May Be, and honor what Has Been, in this way weaving back together the stories of our ancestors, our culture, and our children’s culture as we weave life back into itself one more generation.
We heal together, and not in a vacuum. For this reason, I do not see myself as a sole practitioner working with a family for a set number of hours and set fee. Instead, I welcome you and yours into my community of resourced elders, birthing women and families, children, gardens, Goddess temple, and together we can and will weave the story back together and heal together.
I am a student of midwifery sitting at the feet of birth and birth tenders, having attended births as an apprentice midwife and doula, and having served womben in various capacities. I also have my own four home birth experiences and a wealth of knowledge based on my own journey through instinctual birth. My primary goal is to guide women back to the knowing that any womban is capable of an instinctual response to birth.
While I’m prepared to act in any capacity for a sovereign womban and family, I am clear that I am not, as of now, a licensed midwife practicing as a modern midwife. I have capacities which would put me in the midwifery continuum, but as of now I do not feel confident making any claim to midwifery, nor does my state provide licensure. However, I am a traditional birth attendant with many skills, knowledge, and experience that allow me to work in tandem with a sovereign mother, to assist as I can in a normal, physiologic birth experience. I am happy to act as doula, in any setting, or to stand by for a free birthing woman as a helper to her in HER birth. I hope this gives you some clarity, but please do reach out to ask me more about how I work and what my scope is, if you need. However, I choose very, very judiciously who I attend when no one else is present, with clear contractual understanding that I am not there to save your or your baby (though I will use whatever skills or knowledge I have to assist in an emergent event), and as such, I will recommend transfer if I see something arising that concerns me or feels out of my scope of practice. What you do with that recommendation, in YOUR free birth, is up to you.
