Mayan, Visceral, and Pelvic Floor Work
Mayan abdominal therapy, Pelvic & Visceral “Soul CArving” Work
Over the years, I have moved away from offering the ATMAT version of Mayan Abdominal Therapy, and instead I offer my own mix of skills gained from ATMAT and other authentic Mayan midwives, visceral work from a more Western approach, Pelvic work and Neuro-structural integration work. This can be a session in itself, or integrated as a smaller part of a larger full body session.
Not only does this therapy involve massaging the abdomen, but it also includes pelvic stabilization techniques to assist the function of the entire abdominal and thoracic region. This technique readjusts the uterus and internal organs in a gentle way, while clearing stagnation.
The practice of Mayan Abdominal Therapy is focused on women, however it is also useful for men, to relieve pelvic congestion and align the structure of the pelvis. For women, this work also helps to bring the uterus back into a balanced position, which can be compromised due to childbirth, excessive work, and trauma. Uterine alignment issues can affect the menses, causing incomplete release of the uterine lining, and stagnant blood which can contribute to other pelvic issues.
This is not intended to be a replacement for getting help from a Doctor. However, experience has shown that this therapy can be a wonderful adjunct to allopathic medicine, in helping to clear recurring ovarian cycts, Interstitial Cystitis, excessive or scant menstrual cycles, and other pelvic issues.
In combination with other techniques from Neuro-structural Integration, this can be a particularly powerful tool for bringing health and vitality back to the pelvic region. Pelvic stabilization is addressed, bringing the entire pelvic structure into alignment, which can greatly help back and hip pain as well.
Abdominal and pelvic work can also be an incredible tool for healing sexual trauma, in a gentle, slow manner. Ask me further if you have issues you wish to address in our sessions. Tailoring my sessions to work more on neuro-structural or emotional layers, I can help you unwind traumas both physical and emotional in a safe and empathetic container, which feels both intimate and yet also clinical enough to feel safe.
The work can include external coccygeal (tailbone) work and/or internal coccyx or vaginal/pelvic floor work, to relieve excess tension patterns in the pelvic floor muscles. This work is approached with deep respect and awareness, in a slow manner, gently reminding the musculature and nerves in the pelvic bowl that they can come to a more normal resting tone, and that they are free to FEEL again. This can greatly assist with issues such as vaginal pain, incontinence, sexual issues, birth trauma, tailbone issues (broken or painful coccyx) and more. Both men and women can benefit from this neuro-structural technique of coccygeal work, and it can be incredible comfortable and non-invasive, tailored to your needs and comfort level, with a sheet as a barrier for privacy and comfort.
I am able to access much of the tailbone and pelvic nerves from outside the body, thru a sheet, in a way which feels very comfortable. Yet, there are instances where internal work may be helpful, needed, and transformative. Accessing the musculature of the pelvic floor and vaginal canal, and coaxing the nerves awake again, can be the most transformative step on your wellness plan. And for tailbone trauma, occasionally a tailbone will be too short or broken inward to access externally, in which case internal work can be advised.
Most sessions last between 45 minutes and an hour and a half, and cost $75 per hour, or $80 for internal work or coccyx work (as it causes more wear on my own body and requires a bit more materials). If we are doing deeper work, or full body sessions, we can discuss a plan for possibly working longer.
